Falls are one of the most common reasons older adults lose their independence — but many falls can be prevented.
Around the home
- Remove loose rugs and keep walkways free of clutter and cords.
- Add night-lights between the bedroom and bathroom.
- Install grab bars in the shower and next to the toilet.
- Keep frequently used items within easy reach.
For the body
- Stay active with balance and strength exercises recommended by a therapist.
- Have vision and hearing checked regularly.
- Review medications with a nurse or doctor — some cause dizziness.
- Wear supportive, non-slip shoes indoors.
Our physical and occupational therapists can complete a home safety evaluation and create an exercise program tailored to your loved one.
